Distressed...

My dad and I created this picture frame to go above my stairs. I plan on putting pics of the kids in it. I really liked the frame until I painted it. I think the first mistake I made is a bought a flat black paint. When it was finished it looked like a piece of paper on my wall. So then I decided to distress it to give it some depth- Needless to say I'm not sure what to do now. I think I need to set it aside for a while until I can tackle it again. I don't have the kids pics for it yet anyway. I am planning on adding some kind of silk flowers in the flower box part- my kitchen is black, white, brown, and red so maybe some graniums or something.
So- I need help all you crafty girls. What's the vote- keep it distressed- paint it again but with a gloss paint - sell it on ebay?
HELP.

Are you announcing #4???? Put some gloss or semi gloss finish over the top and be one with it. When you get the pictures and flowers it will look awesome.

I don't mind the distressing, it just seems to be too heavy and in the wrong places. I normally just stick to edges of things and maybe a little scratch or two across the front panel. I agree with your mom about the semi gloss and also curious as well if there is an annoucement?

I vote paint it again and leave it, unless you have a lot of things that fit the distressed theme, then maybe a little around the edges.

I say re-paint then distress the edges. I did this to our entertainment center and decided to use krakle paint and went "krackle Krazyyy" and it turned out dumb.. so I re-painted and only distressed the edges and now it's very pottery barn sheek. I'll try and email you a pic of it in the next couple days.

agreed on sticking to the edges w/the distressing. i dont think you need to stain it though, the color looks good under the black. hmmmmmm.....whats the answer mom's question???

Hmm lots of speculation here on #4, No anouncement other than Amy and I do indead anticipate having more than 3 kids, Amy didn't feel like making a new frame when that day does indead come.

Kelby might mean... indeed- not indead. So, the distressing happened because I first started by just doing the edges but it still looked flat so I started going crazy. I think I will leave it for a while just to see what I think when it's all finished. Thanks for all the input everybody.

Amy! How are you? My idea would be to take a dark red stain or watered down red paint and rub it on the distressed parts. It'll make it less noticeable, but still distressed. Also, I painted my bed a really flat black paint, and I'm sure it looked a lot the same way. I ended up painting on a clear gloss over the top and it looked a lot better :) You should do another post of what you decide, there's been a lot of fun ideas!!

I like the idea of the semi-gloss finish that mom mentioned. I would normally say that I like the distressing, but I think that it's a little too heavy.
As for the flowers, I really like the idea of geraniums in your kitchen, or else some mustard yellow and red dahlias? I think that's what they are called anyway. I love this frame though.
